Course Description

Diploma in Massage Therapies will enable learners to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills in order to provide massage therapies to the public and to gain employment in the spa industry.

    • Consultation techniques – to include treatment plan and contra-indications and contra-actions, identifying general body types, different types of body fat and common postural faults
    • Massage techniques – to include the classical massage movements, use of different massage mediums, mechanical massage and pre-heat treatments and adapting the massage to suit the client’s specific needs
    • Stone therapy massage – to include the use of techniques and stones such as classical massage movements, trigger point work, semi-precious, hot and cold stones and adapting the treatment to suit the client’s specific treatment needs
    • Indian head massage – to include the classical massage techniques, contra-indication and contra-actions, home and aftercare, chakra’s and adapting the massage to suit the client’s treatment needs
    • Deep Tissue massage – to include the use of forearms and deep massage techniques, trigger point and, adapting the treatment to suit the client’s specific treatment needs
    • Herbal therapy massage – to include the use of different techniques and warm herbal compress and adapting the treatment to suit the client’s specific treatment needs
    • Pre – treatments – to include carrying out relevant tests, using products, equipment and techniques to suit client’s treatment needs such a sauna, steam, jet shower and hydrotherapy baths
    • The learner will also learn about related health and safety and client care and communication which is essential in order to work and be successful in the industry.

    This qualification also provides:

    • The related knowledge and understanding required to perform the massage skills listed above effectively, in particular the anatomy and physiology of the body and common diseases and disorders that may affect when a client should or should not receive treatment
    • Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of complementary therapies
    • Knowledge and understanding of professional conduct and business awareness in a complementary therapies context
    • Opportunities for learners to focus on the development of their wider skills in a massage setting such as communicating with clients, working with others and problem solving
    • Opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a massage therapist

Internship opportunities will be offered with our industry partners such as Resorts/hotel spas, Day Spa, health clubs and Cosmetic Clinic.

There are opportunities for an aroma therapist to find employment in a variety of areas:

  • Hotels
  • Health clubs
  • Own business
  • Cruise liners

To be awarded this qualification, learners must successfully
achieve the following assessments:

  • External and internal practical examination
  • External and internal theory examination( MCQ)
  • Portfolio of evidence containing
    – treatment evidence
    – practical performances
    – assignment
    – internal assessment tasks
