Course Description

Are you passionate about your skin? Are you interested in science, health, and beauty? Then you may want to take a skin care course. Skincare course will enable Learners to gain the necessary theoretical knowledge in order to provide Advanced Skincare treatments to the general public and to gain employment in the spa Therapy Industry.

Prerequisite Requirements

The course is designed for anyone with an interest in learning. No formal qualifications are required to study with us. Our courses are suitable if you want to learn new skills, start a new career, or if you’re already working in a particular industry and wish to upgrade your talents and enhance your resume.

Course Overview

    • Dermatology and microbiology – to include anatomical structures of the skin, nails and hair,functions of the skin, nails and hair, changes in the skin associated with ageing, skin types, signs and causes of infectious and non-infectious diseases and disorders, culturing of bacteria.
    • Physiology of ageing - to include the characteristics and nature of ageing, the causes and effects of ageing of the skin, degenerative disorders of the skin, how Beauty Therapy treatments and products may delay the ageing process
    • The chemistry of hair and beauty products – to include ingredients, effects and safe use,
    • packaging materials and the properties and effects of ultra-violet radiation on hair and beauty products
    • It also provides:
    • Opportunities for Learners to focus on the development of their wider skills in an Advanced Skincare setting, working with others and problem solving
    • Opportunities for Learners to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful employment as an Advanced Skincare Therapist

Guided Learning Hours (GLH)
Guided Learning Hours is ‘the activity of a learner in being taught or instructed by – or otherwise participating in education or training under the immediate guidance or supervision of – a lecturer, supervisor, tutor or other appropriate provider of education or training’. This includes ‘the activity of being assessed if the assessment takes place under the immediate guidance or supervision of a lecturer, supervisor, tutor or other appropriate provider of education or training’.
Total Qualification Time (TQT)
Total Qualification Time is the number of notional hours which represents an estimate of the total amount of time that could reasonably be expected to be required, in order for a learner to achieve and demonstrate the achievement of the level of attainment necessary for the award of the qualification.
